Local Labor Market Areas and Determinants of employment of Married Women
Choi Hyo-mi

Abstract
This study looks into the local labor market areas (LLMAs) relevant for married women, and analyzes how LLMA characteristics influence to employment. Using a 10% sample of Korea`s 2010 National Census, LLMAs were drawn up using travel-to-work data. Results indicate that LLMAs for married women are fragmented throughout Korea and cover markedly smaller areas than those for married men or single women. Multilevel analyses on married women`s employment using these LLMAs indicate that region-level regressors with significant positive coefficients included proportion of workers in public-service (public administration/ education/ health and social work etc), proportion of workers in personal-service (hotels and restaurants/ personal service activities etc), proportion of workers in non-male-dominated occupation, whole child-care facility availability, and public child-care facility availability.
